What does Summer School include?
You’ll explore a range of subjects, including:
The study of diseases found mostly in warm countries. You’ll learn how infections spread, how the body fights them and how vaccines are made. Plus, how doctors and scientists prevent and treat these illnesses around the world.
Modules:
Basic Principles of Parasitology, Immunology and Vaccinology (week 1)
Introduction to Neglected Tropical Diseases: Snakebite, Malaria and Chagas disease (week 3).
The moral and political questions around global health. You’ll learn to think critically about fairness, responsibility and equality in medicine. This prepares you for important conversations about the future of healthcare worldwide.
Modules:
Mutations, Track and Trace Systems and Health Inequalities (week 2)
Interrogating the Lack of Visibility of Non-White Knowledge Creators and Knowledge from the Global South (week 3).
Tuskegee Syphilis Study and Willowbrook Hepatitis Experiments: Investigating Past Medical Atrocities (week 4).
The biggest health issues facing our world today. You’ll discover how climate change, migration and globalisation affect the spread of disease. Plus, why knowledge and understanding are key to solving complex problems.
Modules:
Urogenital Infections: Facing a Future Without Effective Treatments (week 4).
Learning from Evidence-Based Policies that Led to the Control of Infectious Diseases from Around the World (week 4).
Bringing your learning to life
Experience real-world healthcare and research through immersive field trips to:
a snake venom unit
research laboratories.
You’ll also work with next-generation sequencing data, bioinformatic tools and other cutting-edge biotechnologies. We’ll help you build practical skills for your future career.

Departure: Sunday 16 August 2026
Summer School teaching dates: Monday 20 July 2026–Friday 14 August 2026
Academic: open to both undergraduate and pre-undergraduate students (Years 11–12). No prior subject knowledge required.
English language: a good level of English (equivalent to CEFR B1).
Minimum age: 16 years old.
This course is designed for international students, including those who don't speak English as their first language.
You’ll be assessed through a mix of participation and project work:
online quiz (20%)
class engagement and problem-based learning (40%)
short presentation of a policy brief (40%).
